Hello, let's get to
know each other

I am Catherine, a researcher in domestic violence

My experiences in research and popularization of science are rooted in the field of social services, more specifically in that of domestic violence.

In my work, projects and collaborations, I have been interested in the notion of moral disengagement. I have studied the social mechanisms of concealment of domestic violence (Romito, 2018) in the context of youth protection in Quebec. I have also explored the concept of coercive control (Stark, 2007) from the perspective of women victims of domestic violence whose spouse (or ex-spouse) had participated in an intervention program for perpetrators of domestic violence in Quebec.

In the coming years, for my doctoral project, I would like to study and compare in more depth how the discourse of accountability defines and mobilizes the policies and intervention practices of programs for perpetrators of domestic violence, in the specific and differentiated context of Ontario and Quebec.
